Description

Cyclotron is prototype #10 for the Automata Project. Cyclotron is a functional Automata Device. Its purpose is to dispense gum balls. Please see the video in the “About” section of this website. Cyclotron is a display of two bevel gears with 10 teeth, a 1:1 ratio. The gear movement is displayed on a base in the center of the object between three legs. The purpose of this was to create center of interest and an orb effect on all three sides of the prototype. Cyclotron features curved, slotted legs, a cylindrical, gravity style hopper on top, a disc mechanism for catching, moving and releasing the gum balls, a plate to hold the disc in place, and a trap to catch the gum balls. The handle was modeled off a hand wheel from an old machine. The prototype was designed to display harmony, proportion, rhythm and balance across all of its parts.
